v. bad start to week

I am trying out a new online toy and doing a comparison.

zach's new online toy

at any rate i will be posting the same thing here and there for a period until i decide which one i like better.

a friend of mine went in for emergency surgery on saturday in the early AM. this mortality thing can just fuck off, if you ask me.

on a brighter note, i believe that corey's and my application for the french assistantship are finally complete…we just have the obligatory photocopies to make and then I have to spend seven gajillion dollars overnighting them to the french embassy in the district of columbia. whew!

holiday season presents are also weighing heavily on my mind. i think i am going to have to get sort of crafty and make a bunch of presents due to my mission to reign in spending. since my venture of crocheting a scarf has sort of come to a stopping ,albeit unfinished, point…i think i may try my hand at knitting (something i have never done before). my grandmother taught me to crochet when i was just a wee lad, and although i do enjoy the hobby as a general rule, i have never been able to finish anything….not that i am expecting knitting to be different, or that it will increase my attention span…but maybe i might be able to finish something simple…like a scarf. aside from that, i am going to have to do a little brainstorming about other such crafts to give away.

ps: I love you three day thanksgiving week!

from devlyn

I can just imagine sara's grade-school report card:
Sara Kibbey
Grade 5
Mr/s. Whosits Class

Though Sara performed most tasks admirably, she tends to have issues with
offering assistance to others. While offering assistance, it's almost as if
she just doesn't care, but wants people to think that she does. Sara should
stop doing this. As I keep telling her, "if you can't say anything nice,
don't say anything at all." Obviously, this has not helped her at all. I
suggest a parent-teacher meeting.

oh joy...

for the last few years of my life i have entertained this romantic notion of the state of massachusetts.
when i was still in high school i always looked at massachusetts as the ideal place to go to college. the ivy covered brick buildings of amherst or harvard had an allure for me that was hard to escape. coming from a city located high in a mountain desert in the west, the east coast seemed, i suppose, refreshing and vibrant. and coming from idaho, the east coast seemed full to the brim of progressive like-minded individuals…
recently the massachusetts supreme court has ruled that barring same-sex partners from marriage is unconstitutional, so, naturally, massachusetts has become even more appealing!
be sure to prepare yourself, my dear massachusetts, from a veritable maelstrom of propaganda from focus on the family and likeminded groups. i can already hear the steam rising out of the orifices in their tiny heads.
and, sarahpink has extended an open invitation to all of her gay friends*** to get married in the parking lot behind her house! yay!

***i am interpreting "friends" very loosely as every glbt person in the united states.

pps: v.v. excited re: the receipt of our acceptance letters to the university of grenoble this morning!

1.Using one adjective, describe your current living space.

2.Using two adjectives, describe your current employer.

3.Using three adjectives, describe your favorite hobby/pastime.

4.Using four adjectives, describe your typical day.

5.Using five adjectives, describe your ideal life.

so, i was planning on doing the friday five today, but i realized that it was just especially lame. either i put the truth down which is incredibly boring, OR i make it up in an attempt to be humorous. neither of which would be very interesting. SO, instead i will have to figure out something else.

today my office is having a potluck for a co-worker who is leaving for another job. i am sad to see her go, but am very happy because i get more duties and hopefully a substantial raise. yow.

this weekend not only culminates in my faxing the university of grenoble our paperwork BUT a meeting to soldify the voting bloc for the political maneuvering that i have been a part of over the last week. huzzah. be gone stress!

Thu, Nov. 13th, 2003, 10:54 am

i saw an old friend last night that i hadn’t seen in over a year, and i kind of got the impression that we don’t have very much to talk about anymore. it is kind of sad because she formed such a big part of my life at one point in time and now we can only get together briefly for an hour and a half and make lame one-line jokes at each other.
at any rate, birthday greeting yesterday went out to my dear lola and i once again stayed out too late and imbibed too much…one would reason that eventually i would learn my lesson and cease these shenanigans. one would be very wrong, indeed.

baa baa

going along with what i have seen elsewhere (and thus thought was novel enough that i should do it as well) here is the previous post translated english to french then back into english.

thus the night which was for the last time upwards finished being indeed very enthralling growth to the top of a liberal in Idaho can be very suffocating and dropping concept but, for once, each person whom I voted for gained what an astonishing concept! the council of Timbers City is now piled up with most of the time the progressive members and I was thus enthralling that I remained outside until 2am one night of work, and me managed to do an ass of me with my professor preferred at the university, the ginna husting. of DR. really, not so much that I made an ass of me, as a too spoken manner and wishes ardently also about various the topics?like how it was a so astonishing boy of professor whom I could really hammer THIS matter in the ground. Perhaps it is the best not to have a social life with people than you seek the to?at minor steps when the copiers quantities of alcohol are implied.

note: well at least *i* was entertained. harumph.

election antics

so the night which was last ended up being very exciting indeed. growing up a liberal in idaho can be a very stifling and depressing concept. but, for once, every person that i voted for won. what an amazing concept! the boise city council is now stacked with mostly progressive members and i was so excited that i stayed out until 2am on a work night, and i managed to make an ass of myself to my favorite professor at the university, dr ginna husting. actually, not so much that i made an ass of myself, as talked way too much and too long about various topics…like how she was such an amazing professor.
boy I really was able to pound THAT topic into the ground.

Maybe it is best not to socialize with people you look up to…at least not when copious amounts of alcohol are involved.

dear job seeker,

we all have bad days, and sometimes we don’t have as much time to be as polished and ready to go out on the hunt for a job. however, if you can’t even form a coherent sentence to allow my understanding of what you are searching for then i am not able to let you to know if there is a position open at our office that needs your qualifications.
so please, next time you get a bee in your bonnet to go out and get yourself a job, maybe practice in front of a mirror what you are trying to say. i certainly have better things to do then listen to you drone on mindlessly for 15 minutes like you’re trying to clear some sort of blockage.

yours truly,
zach

hyper revelations

is it alright to occasionaly hit an impasse in a relationship where neither party apologizes, but just gets on with life, and the lovin’ is back on? i am going to agree (unless this happens a lot, which wouldn’t be very good).

oh, and happy halloween.

for those of you funyuns in the boise valley, please refer to the menageblog for zach’s official voter guide to the 2003 elections.

additionally, i saw howard dean speak last night. in-fucking-credible. i am completely going to vote for him in the idaho democratic caucus on february 24th of next year. i think that bush and his rovie cronies think that dean would be an easy target, what with him being a liberal from new england 'n' stuff... but dean addressed pretty much everything that bush could attack him on, and he did it with strength. i saw john kerry speak a few months ago, and i cannot honestly say i felt the same way.

i am also trying to get my retired mommy to come to the caucuses with me. she told me she caucused for mcgovern back in ’72 and hasn’t been to one since, and I think it would be good for her to get out of the house a bit more often…ever since she took early retirement in june she has just been hanging around the house mostly (aside from a few stints as a substitute teacher).

anyway, i am sooooo hyper today at work i hope i can last the day. friday is such a magical day in the lives of those 8-5 drones like ourselves. blech.

also: i think that grenoble may be back on. the people at the strasbourg university were totally unhelpful (i can’t even reach a real human being, just a machine) and i don’t have time to deal with this crap…our assistant applications are due december 1st after all…we’ll see what happens!

Wed, Oct. 29th, 2003, 08:37 am

so, with merely a simple huzzah and shazam plans for all hallow’s eve are coming together.
depending on a couple of factors i may be dressing up as a mormon missionary with corey or a bunch of us might dress up as different members of the scariest thing that we could think of: the bush administration!
alisha lovingly suggested that i go as attorney general ashcroft and a bunch of copies of the constitution and randomly set them on fire throughout the night, cross things out, light my cigarettes with them….etc.
v.v. excited for this.

love quizzes!
Democrat
Threat rating: High. The Bush administration is
concerned that it may not get a second term.
Therefore, we are going to change the rules so
that each Democrat vote only counts as 0.2
votes because Democrat is a shorter word than
Republican

What threat to the Bush administration are you?

it's called customer service.

okay. so i write to the CUEF program at the university of grenoble, and i receive a lovely, detailed response from a woman named Basma responding to all of my questions, including some attachments explaining general stuff in greater detail, AND a couple days later i received a CUEF catalog in the mail!
so, now that it looks like strasbourg is a better option, I wrote to the IIEF at the university of strasbourg and received a letter that looked much like a form letter stating that there were no more spots open in the program for the 2003-2004 year and i need to wait until april of 2003 for the new program catalogs to be available. SOOOO…as soon as i received that i sent another email (the exact same one in fact) to the same address, this time putting “2004-2005” in bold letters, and changing the subject line to 2004-2005 in all capitals, and received the same damn form letter back again.

this is the only e-mail contact info available.

so, what this means is that i am going to have to stay up later tonight or tomorrow to call the stupid program office in france and actually get some real information. it's amazing the difference between the two programs, and makes me wish grenoble were an easier option.

Fri, Oct. 24th, 2003, 10:41 am
changing plans la ti dah.

so, it looks like moving to grenoble, france may prove to be too difficult to coordinate due to a lot of different factors. corey and i need to ensure that we get placed in the same city (preferably a large one) and the assistant program can not guarantee such a thing. if we are going to university in france then the assistant program will place us as near to the university as they can. the university in grenoble cannot accept FAFSA loans, the university in strasbourg can accept the FAFSA…thus strasbourg is the more logical choice, and still an acceptable one at that!

bad boob doctors

So, our super expensive health care over here in the US may not make up for the cost in quality after all (but didn’t we all have our suspicions?)
US Mammographers, like, totally, SUCK.

Tue, Oct. 21st, 2003, 04:51 pm
ugh

so, lovely sarah pink had this link up on her website from a few days ago (i don’t get there as often as i like)…i don’t disagree with everything, but a lot of them are the same old books people keep trying to pass for “classics,” meaning they are really famous for whatever reasons but may not have much to offer.
need I even mention the less-than-a-handful of women authors. Sigh.

Mon, Oct. 20th, 2003, 09:46 am
yow

so, feeling very happy this week due to a weekend consisting of saturday fun and sunday lovin’.
miss sara’s party was a smash hit (i believe) and, although it was stressful and could have gone quite badly AND although i do not ever want to have that much responsibility surrounding a surprise party again, it was actually a lot of fun, albeit expensive.
on to trudging along for another week at work, only to revel in the short amount of freedom the weekend allows.
also, v excited re: the fact I am now a bona fide precinct captain for precinct 41, district 19. hoorah, and because I helped jan get so many individuals rounded up to be precinct captains, (thus allowing her to be district 19 chair for the dems) she is taking me as her guest to the howard dean dinner. shazam!
there is the yeah.

hindsight is 20/20

It’s really upsetting not to be understood, and not to be able to adequately communicate something to another. I especially hate to be looked at as bitter and unresolved, rather than what I am…just trying to put something behind me only to have it thrown in front of my face around every corner.
Well fuck that.

friends

friends are the people who you can actually treat like shiznit, thus
relieving all of the stresses of modern life...or at least that's what
sara
has taught me.
also, friends are the people you can be totally juvenile and silly with
and
do things that no self-respecting individual would do on any sort of
regular basis..thus relieving the stresses of modern life.
friends are the people that matter so much to you that you can spit on
them!

club foot

thanks to my newly swelled foot on monday, tuesday i stayed home from work so as to not place myself out front in my office as a freak show.

verdict of foot as of today: walkable but still slightly swollen.

laying on the my ass on the couch with an elevated foot yesterday allowed me to fret about all the things i need to get done...and eventually went to get my emissions test and pay a parking ticket...not that the completion of these activities fully alleviated my worries and fears, but it did allow me to relax quite a bit more, and the wine i drank later on finished the job.
i have decided that i have, in all actuality, a very pleasant job...especially since i received "the circle of excellence today." Which essentially is just a silly award that is given simply to make an individual feel worthy and happy, and succeed it did!

foot STILL slightly swollen. ew.
